Full Counseling Services

Full Counseling Services include unlimited assistance with the college search and application process through time spent meeting, researching and in contact by telephone and email. While much of my work is with the student directly, I am also in regular contact with parents and always available for meetings as requested.

I encourage clients to sign up for the Full Counseling Services since it allows me to get to know the student and parents throughout the various stages of the process. It enables me to provide guidance, over time, on the most productive and creative use of the high school years, in finding the right matches when choosing colleges and in developing application materials that will be successful.

The Full Counseling Services is comprehensive. It is not limited to the examples listed below for the Services on an Hourly Basis. It enables me to support the student and parents in depth throughout the various stages of the college search and application process. It allows for student preferences to evolve over time.

Full Counseling Services include the following:

  • Provide an overview of the college admissions process, what colleges are looking for and at as they build a class, current trends and the importance of self assessment and research

  • Develop overall timetables for taking standardized tests, visiting colleges, interviewing and applying

  • Advise on course selection, standardized test taking and tutors personally known to me

  • Provide the student with a comprehensive resource notebook with guidelines and information on general organization and for researching and applying to colleges

  • Complete a detailed review of the student's academic and test records, activities and interests to develop an evolving academic and admissions profile

  • Guide the student through assessment of individual strengths, interests, learning style attributes, academic and career goals and preferences for types of college environments

  • Intelligently interpret data, evaluate schools and identify environments that match the student's interests and profile

  • Develop the "college list" as a work in progress for each student with colleges that match the student's interests and profile, classified by category of admissibility; revise the list over time

  • Provide guidance for meaningful campus visits and prepare the student for effective interviews

  • Clarify financial aid and merit scholarship opportunities

  • Recommend a strategic approach to applying, including use of binding and non binding admission plans (ED 1, ED 2, EA, Rolling and Regular) and the timing, to maximize options

  • Help the student develop application materials that are authentic, comprehensive and targeted, including developing resumes and brainstorming topics for "the essay" and other important written responses

  • Assist with completion of applications and adherence to deadlines as necessary
Services on an Hourly Basis

For those wanting assistance and consultation on a limited basis with a particular stage of the process, I provide Services on an Hourly Basis. Hourly services may also be purchased in a block of 4 or 8 hours at a discounted rate. Some examples are
